Our Delivery Guidelines are designed to help ensure the safe, smooth, and hassle-free delivery of your shipping or storage container. Please take a few minutes to review the requirements before your scheduled delivery. If you have any questions or are unsure whether your site is suitable, please contact LOCH BOX LIMITED® before delivery.
Ground Conditions
Both the location where the container will be placed and the area where the delivery truck will park while unloading must be level or have only a mild incline of no more than approximately 5 degrees.
If the Hiab truck must operate on steep, unstable, or unsuitable ground while unloading, there may be a risk of equipment damage or an unsafe delivery. In these circumstances, the driver may refuse to unload the container until suitable conditions are provided.
Suitable Road Surfaces
Paved surfaces such as concrete and asphalt are ideal for shipping container deliveries.
For rural properties, delivery may still be possible, provided the access route meets the requirements for the delivery vehicle. As a minimum, the delivery location should be accessible via a maintained two-lane road with sufficient strength and clearance for the delivery truck.
Unsuitable surfaces may include:
- Loose dirt or sand
- Muddy or flooded areas
- Soft or unstable ground
- Sandy areas
- Grass or soil that may not support the weight of the delivery truck
- Areas with significant potholes or uneven terrain
Before delivery, please inspect the delivery area and remove rocks, tree stumps, branches, rubbish, and other debris that could obstruct the truck or damage the equipment.
Container Placement & Weight Distribution
When the container is placed on the ground, its weight should be evenly supported by the four steel corner castings.
Uneven support can cause the container frame to twist slightly, which may make the doors difficult to open or close properly.
Where necessary, suitable pavers, solid hardwood blocks, concrete supports, or other appropriate foundations can be positioned beneath the corner castings. The supporting surface must be stable and level.
Height & Width Restrictions
Adequate clearance is required for the Hiab truck and container during delivery and unloading.
As a general guideline, allow approximately 14 feet of clearance for both height and width, where possible. The container may be lifted and moved into position during unloading, and the highest point of the container during the delivery process can be approximately 10 feet or more, depending on the equipment and unloading position.
Please check for potential obstacles, including:
- Low-hanging tree branches
- Gates and fences
- Arches
- Building eaves
- Power lines
- Signs
- Walls and other structures
These obstacles may interfere with the truck or container and could cause damage.
Limited visibility can also create a safety risk. Where possible, we recommend having two people on site during delivery to assist the driver and identify potential obstacles.
Restricted Access & Forklift Delivery
If the Hiab truck cannot safely access your property or there is insufficient space to position the container directly, please inform LOCH BOX LIMITED® before delivery.
In some situations, a forklift may be required to move the container from the delivery truck into a suitable position on your property. Forklift delivery or additional handling may incur an additional delivery charge, depending on the site requirements.
Length & Turning Requirements
Please ensure there is sufficient straight-line space for the delivery truck to access and position your container.
As a general guideline:
- 10FT container: Minimum approximately 40FT of straight-line space
- 20FT container: Minimum approximately 60FT of straight-line space
- 40FT container: Minimum approximately 100FT of straight-line space
Additional space may be required depending on the road layout, access conditions, turning area, obstacles, and the specific delivery vehicle being used.
Important
The customer is responsible for ensuring that the delivery site and access route are suitable and safe for the delivery vehicle and container.
If you are unsure whether your property has sufficient access, space, ground conditions, or clearance, please contact LOCH BOX LIMITED® before placing your order.
If you do not have sufficient access or space for standard Hiab delivery, please request a forklift delivery option in advance.
